I do a large portion of my running, especially in the winter, on the treadmill. It’s convenient and a good workout, however, it can also be extremely boring. Here are my tricks for staying entertained on the treadmill.
1.) Watch a show
I always bring my iPad with me when I run on the treadmill. Most shows are about 45 minutes long, which is the perfect amount of time for a good workout. I have watched entire seasons on shows simply by watching them on the treadmill. My favorite shows to workout to are: Gossip Girl, Gilmore Girls, and The Great British Baking Show.
2.) Do a workout
The time passes so slowly when you just run on the treadmill, however, if you do a workout, especially time-based intervals, the miles fly by. My favorite workout to do on the treadmill is a 15- minute warm-up, followed by 2×90 sec, 4×1 min, 4×45 sec, 4×30 sec, and 4×15 sec intervals.
3.) Don’t look at the time
Resist the urge to look at your time or mileage! It will be much better if you just try to hang in there and do your workout without thinking about how much you want to stop.
4.) Race your neighbor
If you’re at the gym, it can be fun to create a secret competition with the person next to you. Just try to be discreet about it.
5.) Get a treadmill in front of the window
Being able to see what’s going on outside is a nice distraction.
